The Misuse of Technology Exhibition

Our exhibition "The Misuse of Technology Exhibition" uses modern technology to reconstruct and display common, everyday occurrences. The purpose is to evoke a slight sense of embarrassment and a chuckle among visitors by sharing these awkward moments.

My group's creation captures one such embarrassing moment: the experience of getting a massage at a hair salon. In the moment of relaxation, one might breathe heavily through their nose, accidentally blowing off the gauze placed over their face.

My role: I was responsible for creating explanatory illustrations and programming the sensors.

Butter mochi

Problem: Despite their deliciousness, sales of Akita's specialty, butter mochi, are not growing as expected. This may be partly due to the product not appealing to a broader market beyond the local residents.

Goal: The aim is to increase the sales of butter mochi and acquaint a larger audience with its deliciousness. By doing so, the objective is to enhance the product's popularity and reputation, thereby expanding its market reach.

Solution: The target market will shift from local residents to tourists. To achieve this, butter mochi will be positioned as an attractive souvenir with an eye-catching package design. The packaging is designed to grab the attention of tourists, encouraging them to purchase it as a souvenir for themselves or for friends.

This concept is centered on rebranding a regional traditional food to suit the modern market, aiming to capture a new customer base.

"Reflection" Exhibition

Together with my classmates, we held an exhibition themed around the concept of 'reflection'. We wanted to create pieces that would instinctively compel visitors to touch them, so we chose bubble wrap (packing material) as our medium. We captured the moment of fingers pressing down to burst the bubbles in the bubble wrap, recreating this in plaster clay.

Furthermore, we thought bubble wrap was fitting for the theme of 'reflection', as it changes shape depending on the object it wraps.

Merchandise featuring original characters

For our silkscreen printing class assignment, I created merchandise based on my original character.

  1. Business Card Holder and Cards: Depending on the type of business card you insert, the character can appear to be wearing either a red or blue backpack. You can change it according to your mood.

  2. Rainy Day File: When you pull out the paper from the file, an umbrella appears, protecting the girl from the rain.

  3. Back-to-Childhood T-Shirt: Even if you’re not wearing a backpack, the illustration of a backpack on the back of the t-shirt makes it seem like you are. It allows you to enjoy the atmosphere of walking to and from school during your elementary days.

Little Friends Vase for Solo Dwellers

This unique glass vase, designed as a single-flower vase, was created with the aim of enriching the lives of those living alone. The concept behind the 'Little Friends Vase' is to offer a sense of companionship in those moments of solitude that can occur in solitary living. By shaping the vase like a small, sitting figure, the idea is to provide a heartwarming presence, as if a little friend is sitting by your side. It’s not just a vase, but a companion that brings a touch of warmth and joy to your home with the simple addition of a single flower.
